Last month, the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change released its AR6 Synthesis Report, which outlines the key takeaways from the vast body of scientific research on climate change with the goal of spurring policy makers to take swift action to unleash funding and regulation that will enable climate solutions and stop further pollution.

Here are the top 3 takeaways:

Climate change is already causing adverse effects, and is doing so disproportionately. About ½ the world’s population is extremely vulnerable to climate change impacts, whether that be in the form of droughts, extreme heat, or displacement due to rising sea levels.

This is the decade to take massive action. While fossil fuels are the largest contributor of greenhouse gasses, we need to set aggressive targets within every sector and begin taking concrete actions to reduce pollution if we want to stay within 1.5-2.0 degrees of warming.

Early action has a multitude of benefits. By taking early action, we reduce damages to ecological and human systems, and lessen the need for costly future investments in carbon removal technologies to prevent further damage.

How every Untonne Premium Subscription helps:

Our subscribers are taking action to benefit the world’s most vulnerable populations. Each stove installed helps improve their resilience by giving back the gift of time not needed to gather firewood, keeping local ecosystems intact by lessening deforestation, and keeping smoke out of the home that can impact health. Furthermore, by planting trees, our Premium Subscriptions improve ecology, create jobs, and draw down emissions that have already been released.

While there is more work to be done, we thank our subscribers for taking action to address climate change, and do so in a way that helps the world’s populations most vulnerable to climate change.
